News flash: Rare piece of Kinbotes ephemera surfaces! Crowd goes wild!

Only known extant copy of Kinbotes newsprint!

Late summer greetings...  semi-sweltering here, but loving every minute of it.  Brief news-worthy blip was this stoke-worthy piece of the Kinbotes puzzle, origin unknown - for the moment...  maybe Maximum R&R?  I got it already clipped, so who's to say...  in light of a potential reissue, I say - party on!  More music soon...  much love, JDF

SICK SUMMER MIXXX: "It's the Same Moon in China"

Here it be...  the annual Waxidermy mix-swap contribution...  have very little to say about it other than that I quite enjoyed making, and the traxx are top notch!  Will try to get a listing together soon, though I have misplaced most of the records by now...  sigh...  Hope everyone's summers are trending upward, blissfully moving toward a circle around the sun.  Cheers, JDF

Shades of Rayne

Hey everybody.  Summer rings heavy in the ectoplasm.  Sort of preoccupied here, but for some reason this 45 was really calling itself to my mind's eye, and I figured it was worth a post.  The step-son of one of the greatest bands ever - New Orleans' mighty Rayne - this little offshoot is still really kinda hep, and has a nice faded southern stoner aura to the whole jag.  I'm into it, and it's shimmery summery stoney slack-eyed cat's eye mind's eye fry, etc.  so therefore, appropriate?  For you?  For me?  Pretty sure this 45 is the only remedy to the deep gash their older brothers inflicted on the private press scene.  Nothing quite like the LP, yet I can totally get behind this swamp folk errata...  (the 45! -- aha!)  I really hope you enjoy it too.  My annual summer mix CD is done, and I'll get it up here really soon.  Sure to be a doozy!  Talk soon -- Much luv, jdf

M.H. Stanley Intermediate School Big and Little Choruses - Movin' On

Really, really late on fulfilling this promise, but here's my first real post back...  Top top tier middle school band rock out sesh, kinda unparalleled for my money - barring say something like, Context '70, or whatever!  NorCal preteens just totally running amok here, great cover choices, and some total tear-jerker softee moments to boot.  Their teacher was obviously a head of one stripe or another...  Essential pick for this kind of scene...  so get hip already!!  And say hi if you've got any good stories about the LP!  More soon...  Much love, JDF

AND WE'RE BACK!!!

Rare promotional photo of the once lost Peach and Pockets!!!

Well, almost. I just wanted to say hi to everybody after being reminded that I had a blog stashed away somewhere in cyber space during a recent conversationin which Nabokov and thus, the almighty Kinbotes came up. I haven't been posting because after yet another relocation to sunny southern California I've been very busy getting an MFA, and in the meanwhile accruing a nasty stack of blog-worthy records that are threatening to jump off the shelves and write about themselves for you all to hear and see, a flood-gate that will surely burst in but a few weeks. If you're curious about various other projects I have a very infrequently updated Tumblr for miniature art crud - and hopefully a lot more of my films soon! Take care, talk soon, and be well. It's the time of the season, you know...

New Mix: Exercise Your Face (and Smile)

Summer has come again - and I am still trying to get this blog back to normal. 2 large relocations in one year, though, will take it out of you. I made this mix for the annual Waxidermy mix-swap, and it's the usual brew of late nite AOR steamers, and fried college folk. Hope everyone is doing A-OK, and that when I finally get settled down (again) we can get some better locomotion going here... the records are piling up! Yargh! Dig it...

Metz on Lone Starr

Hello friends! Long time no see! Well, you'll be pleased to know I've been living it up in the beautiful state of Texas... sort of a revelation moving to the deep south, soaking in the heat, enjoying the musical bounty of one of the weirdest regions on the planet! You know it! Up for the taste today is a beguiling piece of the METZ puzzle, the 7" counterpart to the world's rarest glammy hard rock MDMA git-down LP - known only in the most luxurious THC-drenched NOLA bachelor pad circles, and Dallas thrift-store crack-ups! Literally one known copy of the big disc, and not sure there's another one in sight of the record pictured above... wild! So what's the joint? On the Universe / New Life split, Senor Metz pilots the ship into rockier waters and pummels one of the best 70s hard rock assaults I have witnessed - hand's down - drops the sisters and shoots for the blisters... beautiful, beautiful wasted hard rock and only made more beguiling by the Chrome / Lone label swap and mutual Houston pressing matrix. Who were you Metz?! What black-light puke-encrusted disco ball alternate reality do you cling for dear life to? Would LOVE to know more about this massive obscurity - so get in touch! Blessings and godspeed from Tejas -- watch out Raven, enjoy this blast!
